Two Signings, One Week, Many Thanks

December 18th, 2009

I can’t offer enough thank yous to all of my family, friends and fans who came out to one of my book signings this week to show their support. We writers are generally a shy breed, secretly terrified of sharing our works with others for fear of how it will be received, so putting ourselves on the line at book signings and other events is always a little terrifying. Add to that some unfortunate weather and a busy week of holiday events, and I was very nervous about the turnout for my two events.

But things went great, thanks to the aforementioned parties of amazing supporters. I have to give specific thanks to the folks at Wolf’s Head Books, the Southeast Branch of the St. Johns County Library and the St. Augustine Record, who promoted by events all over the place. Also, my newly retired parents (who are still getting used to figuring out what to do with all of their spare time) went out of their way to put up fliers around town promoting the events.

Here are a few pictures I want so share. Oh and if you weren’t able to come out, I’m sure there will be more occasions in the future! Keep checking back with shannononeil.net for more.

Book signing today!

December 12th, 2009

I felt like a kid waking up on Christmas morning today!

I’ve been so blessed in life to get the chance to do so many wonderful things, and today is no exception. For the first time in my illustrious writing career (which arguably began in second grade) I’m having my very own book signing event. It’s one of those unique moments in life that’s both thrilling and terrifying. I am excited to think that I could be starting a real fan base today and finally getting an opportunity to talk to people about my book, but also afraid that no one will show and I’ll be that weirdo sitting in the corner of the bookstore at a little lopsided table all alone.

Mother Nature is not helping my cause. It’s 65 degrees with 10 – 20 mph winds and steady rain. Fantastic weather for getting people to go to downtown St. Augustine were parking is almost an art form and walking is almost always required. Not to mention the fact that downtown St. Augustine retains water like a pregnant lady, so several streets are sure to be flooded and puddles will abound.

Nevertheless, I’m keeping my spirits up. Just the fact that I’m having this event is monumental, and with any luck it will be the first of many (well, it’s at least the first of two!). So if you’re in the area and you feel like braving the weather, come down to Wolf’s Head Books between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to meet me and get an autographed copy of my book!

Later days,

Shannon

If you can’t make it on Saturday…

December 8th, 2009

…then you better come out to my next official event on Thursday, Dec. 17th at the Southeast Branch of the St. Johns County Library. I’ll be there from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. doing a Q&A, possibly a reading and definitely a signing. You can pick up a copy of the book or just come in and say hi. The official press release for both events is below and I hope to see everyone there!

Multiple appearances scheduled in St. Augustine for local author Shannon O’Neil
O’Neil will be greeting fans and signing copies of her debut novel,  I’ll Be Home for Peacemas at Wolf‘s Head Books and the St. Johns County Library in the next week.
St. Augustine, Fla. — Among the other exiting holiday festivities taking place in the Nation’s Oldest city this December, locals and visitors alike will have a chance to meet local author Shannon O’Neil at Wolf’s Head Books on Saturday, Dec. 12 or at the Southeast Branch of the St. Johns County Library on Tuesday, Dec. 17.
Fans can pick up a copy of O’Neil’s debut novel, I’ll Be Home for Peacemas and have it personally autographed at Wolf’s Head Books in downtown St. Augustine between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. this Saturday, or next Tuesday from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the St. Johns County Library Southeast Branch located on US1 South near SR 206.
“I’m really looking forward to both of these wonderful events,” said O’Neil. “The community has given me so much support and I’m so happy that I’m able to reach out to them with these two signings and maybe even have a dialogue about the book itself.”
O’Neil first premiered her novel in December of 2008 under the title Ancient City Christmas. After a very exclusive short run, O’Neil pulled the novel to re-edit it, add a chapter, and include a preview of the book’s sequel due out in the spring of 2010.
“It needed a little polishing,” said O’Neil. “It’s the same story and the same cast of colorful characters, just with a few improvements.”
I’ll Be Home for Peacemas details the hilarious journey of Bailey Hamilton as she returns to her hometown of St. Augustine, Florida, for the holidays. Bailey’s enormous family nearly drives her to the brink of insanity, but memories of the Hamilton’s tragic past manage to keep the family together.
“It’s a great read,” said St. Augustine resident Toni Huffman. “The setting in St. Augustine is just perfect for the eclectic cast of characters who come together for the holidays. But even though it takes place around the holidays, at its core, this book is really about family.”
The novel is also available through most online booksellers including Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and Books-A-Million.
